Crystal Thomas presented at the Society for Social Work and Research conference. She Examined the Locations of Medical Marijuana Dispensaries in Los Angeles.

The main takeaways were:

--Little is known about the spatial distribution of dispensaries and sites may be disproportionately located in minority communities and/or communities with younger populations

--Using Bayesian conditionally autoregressive models that include controls for spatial heterogeneity, this study explores the relationship between neighborhood sociodemographics, structural features of neighborhoods and density of medical marijuana dispensaries in Los Angeles.

--Findings suggest that likely due to zoning regulations, dispensaries are located in primarily commercially zoned areas with greater road access and on-premise and off-premise alcohol outlets. Dispensaries are also located in Hispanic communities.
